6mm double-pointed knitting
needles and 6mm circular
knitting needle; 1 shaped vase,
20cm tall x 67cm circumference
at widest point; wool needle, for
sewing in ends
HERE’S HOW
Tension: 18 sts and 21 rows
to 10cm over stocking st, using
6mm needles and M
double.
SPECIAL ABBREVIATION
M1P = make 1 (Pick up loop
which lies before next st, place
on left-hand needle and purl
into back of loop).
This Vase Coat pattern
can be adjusted to suit the size
and shape of your particular
vase. The pattern fits a vase
with a base circumference of
about 20cm. If your vase is
smaller or larger, cast on less
or more sts but make sure the
number is divisible by eight.
The vase shaping is done by
increasing and decreasing in
the purl sts of the rib fabric. If
your vase is thinner or fatter,
then increase out evenly to the
required circumference, testing
the shape on your vase as you
knit. Depending on the height
of your vase, you can knit extra
length or stop short. Test by
trying the coat on the vase as
you work. Be aware that yarn
quantities may vary.
Beg at base
Using a set of 6mm double-
pointed needles and M
double,
cast on 40 sts evenly onto
3 needles. Join to work in
rounds, taking care not to twist
cast-on edge. When sts do not
fit comfortably on the set of
needles as sts are increased,
change to a 6mm circular needle.
